The Vanishing, Act II (2025) porcelain
21 x 19 x 14 inches
While at an art & science residency at Oregon's Playa Summer Lake surrounded by vast public lands, I couldn't help but think about all that we stand to lose with this administration's executive orders bent on privatization, mining, and logging of our public lands. Turning back progress means a repeat of all our past mistakes. We stand to lose all that we have saved, stewarded, and nurtured back from the brink. The warning signs of upcoming devastation are all around us. To this piece, I included the textures of the federally protected sagebrush covered grasslands around Summer Lake, Oregon, incorporating symbols of danger and decay through the holes, mushrooms, preying snake and an unexpected canary.
